In 1980 Les Watrous obtained a California General Contractors License 388630 under the name, The Watrous Group. In the early 80's, because there were not too many home inspectors, people would call The Watrous Group to do home inspections and Les became very familiar with the home inspection industry. In the early 90's, as the home inspection industry evolved, a lot of insurance claims against home inspectors were from leaking roofs and home inspectors began to disclaim roofs by recommending to get a roof inspection. Les saw this as an opportunity and in 1993 he founded Cert-A-Roof® to inspect and certify roofs to be free of leaks and he trademarked the term LeakFREE® Roof Certification. As the real estate, banking and insurance industry became aware of the value in having the roof inspected and certified, the demand began to grow. The Watrous Group dba Cert-A-Roof.
