Green walls (greeninfrastructure), and Urban Agriculture (roof top farms and vertical farms).

With a strategic presence in urban centers on both coasts–New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco–Greensulate offers both significant research and commercial application experience in the area of "building envelope" (walls, and roofs of a building) efficiency. The company enjoys an industry leadership position and offers a variety of services, products, and proprietary techniques devoted to dramatic, quantifiable improvements in building envelope energy efficiency, value, and sustainability for virtually any existing or planned structure. Greensulate enables individuals, enterprises, and public organizations to take actionable steps that result in private benefits–significant energy cost savings, as one example–but also profound social benefits that positively impact their building, neighborhood, region, and world.

I started building Greensulate in early 2007, after many years of taking any course about green roofs I could find. Being from the Pacific Northwest and having been exposed to the concept of green roofs at a very young age (by my Swedish father), this means of adding green space to the VERY urban neighborhood where I lived in Manhattan, had become an obsession.

My first hands-on exposure was trying a DIY green roof on my Shelter Island home (as a means to keep it cooler in the summer and mitigate flooding on the property) and that's when I realized there was a need and a gap in materials and services offered. A big one.
Seeing a need, having an entrepreneurial bug, and wanting to make direct environmental impacts with my work all aligned to push me toward creating Greensulate. Everyone, including my father thought I was crazy.

Since then the company has worked on over 1million square ft. of green roofs and is profitable and healthy. People no longer think I'm crazy. Not even Dad.
